I worked for Joe in the late 90s at Summit Bank and for some unknown reason I did a google search on him today and saw the sad news of his passing. Even though I had not spoken with Joe for at least 20 years, he would still come to mind periodically. Janice - we only met once when you and Joe hosted his Summit team at your county club a very long time ago. He was a great guy - very fair and supportive and I'm very sorry for your loss. - Mike Hagelgans

Dear Janice and family,
I met Joe at Madison Memorial Home in 2021 when my husband Tom passed away. Joe was one of the many comforting and compassionate MMH team members that supported and guided my young sons and I through Tom's wake and funeral. By coincidence, two of my sisters recognized Joe during this time - one through the Madison Golf Club and another through seeing him cheering on his grandchildren at New Providence events. It was even more comforting to know that there was a connection between this incredibly warm and supportive funeral home and my family. After that, I had the great fortune to meet and get to know Janice and to call her my friend - together she and Joe truly emanated grace, loving kindness, beautiful hearts, insightful perspectives on life, smart and funny conversations and a deep faith. When I saw them together, I always thought how much they reminded me of my own loving parents - devoted to their faith and to their families. It truly warmed my heart to see them together.
I believe that serving grieving families is a ministry, not a job - Joe's gentle demeanor and natural warmth was a blessing to my sons and I as I am sure it was to all of the families he served in his many years at MMH. To Doug and the MMH team, I am sorry for the loss of your colleague and friend, and to Janice and the Verbaro family, I am sorry for the loss of your dear Joe. Rest in peace in eternal life Joe. God bless you all. Love, Antoinette, Liam and Thomas Walsh

Joe and I were close friends from Kindergarten through High School. His birthday was exactly 2 weeks before mine. At OLGC we were "altar boys" together and played baseball in the PAL summer league. We played football together at MHS and often double dated our junior and senior years. I'll never forget his early 50's Studebaker! When I had to drop out of full-time college after 1 year, he helped me get hired at RCA. Unfortunately, our life paths diverged at that point, and we lost contact. When I read the other comments on his obit about the rest of his life, I can easily identify and say "yep, that's Joe". My deepest condolences to his family. I'll see you on the other side, Joe.

Dear Vebaro family~
Our condolences to each of you, especially my dear friend Jan!.
I am a SVC person, therefore knowing the happy duo of our dear friends Jan & Joe! I would venture to say, they are & always will be the "sweethearts" of St.Vincent! Two of the kindest people we know!
Saying goodbye to Joe, will be truly difficult. He is "symbolic" with SVC, and will be forever remembered for his work & time on the financial board, but for me personally, being a "greeter" at Sunday mass, not seeing his warm smile as he and Jan entered.
There are many great people in our parish of SVC, but one of THE BEST is now earning his seat in heaven...Taking his seat next to the God he loved so much!
We'll miss you Joe, but will forever smile when we think of you...which will be often!
