Obituary of Anne Marie Meister

Anne Marie Meister, 77, of Arlington, Virginia, passed away unexpectedly on August 1, 2025.

Anne was born on April 23, 1948, in Union, New Jersey, to George and Kay Meister.  She was preceded in death by her older brothers, George Meister of Munich, Germany, in 2024, and William Meister, who was killed in action in the Army in Vietnam in 1970.  She is survived by her brother, Thomas Meister and his wife Karen of York, Pennsylvania, and a niece, Lauren Shive, and a great niece, Ariana; also a nephew, Patrick Meister and his wife Sarah of Steinach, Germany, and two great nephews, Jannich and Niklas.  She was the Godmother to Brittany Anne Tomaso (Haak), Nicole Barrett Messick (Salvaterra), and William Edmonds.

Anne graduated from St. Elizabeth Academy in Convent Station, New Jersey, in 1966.  She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in French from Immaculata College in 1970 where she was a member of Lambda Iota Tau, an international honor society for Literature.

After graduating from Immaculata, Anne was initially employed at the United Nations in New York.  Subsequently, she moved to Washington, D.C. and was hired by the U.S. Treasury Department.  After 40 years of employment with the Treasury Department, rising in the Senior Executive Service, she became the first woman to hold the position of Deputy Commissioner of the Bureau of Public Debt.  Her duties afforded her the opportunity to travel throughout the country and internationally overseeing Treasury contracts with the 12 Federal Reserve Banks and field operations in the Treasury facilities in Parkersburg, West Virginia.

Anne was a very caring friend and relative who spend many early years traveling most weekends from her home in Arlington to Madison, New Jersey, to ensure that her elderly aunts had all the services and support they needed.  After retiring from Treasury in 2009, Anne volunteered every year with Arena Stage in D.C. as an usher.  She was extremely active and supportive with what she named her "Mc Friends", a fellow group of retirees who met most days for coffee at the McDonald's in her neighborhood.  They even met outside through the COVID pandemic and made a point to take care of each other in sickness and health.

Anne will be immensely missed by her family.  She will also be particularly missed by her many traveling companions with whom she took numerous European excursions over the years, her former roommates with whom she met frequently for lunch in Frederick, Maryland, and her Immaculata "buddies" with whom she partied recently at her 55th college reunion at what is now Immaculata University.

A memorial service for Anne will be scheduled on Sunday, October 5, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., at the Seasons 52, 78631 Tysons Corner Center, McLean, Virginia.  A separate memorial service will be held on October 11, 2025, at 10 a.m., at the Madison Memorial Home, 159 Main Street, Madison, New Jersey, with burial to follow.  People interested in attending the memorial services are asked to send an e-mail to tfmeister456@yahoo.com and kjrmeister@yahoo.com.

Charitable contributions may be made in Anne's memory to Immaculata College in Fraser, PA.
