John Joseph Hynes, of Rockaway, New Jersey, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, July 23, 2025 at the age of 81. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, and an adoring grandfather whose warmth and kindness touched the lives of all who knew him.

John is survived by his beloved wife, Jacquelyn Hynes (née Severn); two devoted daughters, Jeanette Nigro and her husband Matt Nigro & Joyce Hynes and her husband David Nigro; two cherished grandchildren, Daniel Nigro and Dana Nigro; and several extended family members. In addition to his parents, John was predeceased by his infant sister, Mary Hynes.

Born on July 9, 1944 in Newark, New Jersey, John was the son of the late John Patrick and Irene Cecilia Hynes. He was united in marriage to his beloved wife, Jacquelyn Hynes on March 5, 1966 and together they shared a beautiful life for 59 years, filled with love, laughter, and countless cherished memories.

John dedicated many years of his life to serving as a police officer in Union, New Jersey where he was known for his unwavering commitment to his community and the respect he earned from his peers. After retiring in 1991, he continued to embody the values of service and integrity. He also proudly served in the United States Air Force National Guard before being honorably discharged.

Together with Jacquelyn, John raised their two daughters, Jeanette and Joyce in Union where they created a nurturing home filled with love. In 1999, they moved to Frenchtown, New Jersey where they enjoyed the beauty of the countryside until relocating to Rockaway in 2023.

John was a dependable man whose love for his family was evident in everything he did. He cherished family vacations, especially trips to amusement parks, where his infectious laughter and great sense of humor brought joy to those around him. His smile could light up any room, and he maintained his joyful spirit until the very end.

John was an avid enthusiast of antique Chevys and all things GM. He took great pride in his immaculate lawn and meticulously cared-for cars, earning the admiration of his neighbors.
