My sympathy to everyone who loved Corinne. I wanted to make sure you had this picture taken with Mariette Bates, CUNY's Disability Studies Director, and her husband Duncan Whiteside on my 50th birthday June 21, 2011 in NYC. I became an unofficial New Yorker because of Corinne and I loved all the wonderful times we had in NYC. I thought of her often, even when I could no longer could travel to NYC much.

I was the first recipient of the Corinne Kirchner Award. She was an amazing co-worker and mentor to me ! She taught me so much, which I’ve tried to pass on to my own students. She elevated and explicated research in blindness, and we are forever in her debt.

I worked with Corinne for many years at the American Foundation for the Blind. She was one of the early people doing research re. blindness and vision loss. She was critical in collecting and sharing data with my program group to help guide us through setting priorities and seeking and securing funding. She was critical to our field and her research will continue to have an impact far into the future, impacting lives.
