Obituary of Louis DeVico

Louis “Lou” DeVico, 86, of Madison, NJ passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of family on May 29, 2025.

On January 26, 1939 Lou was born in Plainfield, NJ to the late Michael DeVico & Delight DeVico (nee Maselli). The family lived in Plainfield for many years before settling in Berkeley Heights. While attending South Plainfield High School, Lou worked at Bovella’s bakery in Plainfield learning and crafting the art of professional baking, a job that he loved and cherished throughout his life.

Being an avid bowler, Lou joined a bowling league not realizing it would change his life forever. One winter evening he met the woman that would be the love of his life, his wife Anna. They married a year after meeting and together they had one child, Jim, who joined his step-sister Lisa at home. They settled in Madison, NJ where they entertained family and friends often. Their home was a loving, welcoming home and they enjoyed life to the fullest.

In 1956 Lou joined the United States Army National Guard. Having a devotion to service, Lou made a commitment to serve as his lifelong career, which spanned over 43 years. He retired with a rank of Master Sergeant in 1999. Through his many achievements, he was granted numerous awards and recognitions for his work. After retiring, Lou worked full time for the NJ Department of Military and Veteran’s Affairs as the Principal Staff Officer to the Adjutant General of the NJ National Guard. He was assigned to Military Support as part of the Domestic Preparedness Bureau.

Lou was a devoted and incredible husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend who loved his family and friends deeply. He had a love for golf and fishing and enjoyed those activities as often as possible.

Along with his parents, Lou is predeceased by his wife, Anna DeVico (nee Bruno) and a brother Michael “Micky” DeVico. He is survived by his son, James “Jim” DeVico (Mary), a step-daughter Lisa MacAdam (Doug), three cherished grandchildren, Leo, Robert “Bobby” MacAdam (Nicole) and Lindsay Brock (nee MacAdam) (Mak). Three beautiful great-grandchildren, Bobby MacAdam Jr., Joseph “Joey” MacAdam and Anna Brock. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear friends.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend the visitation for Lou to be held on Tuesday, June 3, 2025 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Madison Memorial Home, 159 Main Street, Madison.

Funeral services will begin at the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 4, 2025 followed by Mass of Christian Burial that will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. at St. Vincent Martyr Church, 26 Green Village Road, Madison. Those who wish may attend the mass virtually by visiting www.svmnj.org

Interment with military honors will follow at St. Vincent’s Cemetery, Madison.

Charitable contributions may be made in Lou’s memory to the Tunnels to Towers Foundation or the Center for Dementia Research.
