Obituary of Ciro D'Amato
Ciro D’Amato, a longtime Madison resident, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 27, 2025 after a long battle with cancer. He was 66.
He leaves behind his beloved wife of 38 years, Philomena D’Amato (née Esposito); his cherished children, Antonio D’Amato, Annamaria D’Amato (Charles Tennyson), and Gabriella D’Amato (Michael DeOre); his brother, as well as extended family including nieces, nephews, and many dear friends.
Ciro was born on January 14, 1959 in Brusciano, Italy to the late Antonio and Margherita D’Amato (née Montanile). His family emigrated to the United States when Ciro was a teenager, living in the Bronx before settling in Chatham. Ciro and Philomena’s families knew each other since before the two were in high school, so it was no surprise when the couple got married on August 2, 1986, and settled in Madison.
Ciro was an incredibly hard worker. During his time working for Romanelli’s pizzeria, he would make heart-shaped pizzas for his wife saying “I Love You”. He eventually worked his way into the world of IT, becoming the Head of Global WAN Services at Novartis in East Hanover, where he worked for over 30 years.
Ciro’s main interests included computers, airplanes, collecting stamps, and soccer, but his main joy was his family. He was beloved by everyone who knew him and would drop everything to help those in need without expecting anything in return. He was quite handy and could fix just about anything. Ciro had a great sense of humor and loved to tell a good dad joke. He was incredibly strong and fought hard against this terrible disease. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend a visitation for Ciro to be held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 29, 2025 at St. Vincent Martyr Church, 26 Green Village Road, Madison.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, May 30, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. also at St. Vincent Martyr Church, Madison. Those who wish may attend the mass virtually by visiting www.svmnj.org
Entombment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover.
