Obituary of David B. Zdobinski

David Bruce Zdobinski, a longtime Rockaway resident, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 22, 2025. He was 76.

David leaves behind his siblings Carolyn Caulfield (Patrick), Edmund Zdobinski (Lucy), Louise Saunders (Edmund), Dolores Bosco, Catherine Silva (Joseph), Susan Murray, and Mark Zdobinski; and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 41 years, Deborah Lee Zdobinski in 2021; and his brother-in-law Jeffrey Murray.

David was born in Kansas City, Missouri on November 23, 1948, to the late Edmund and Dolores Zdobinski. He spent his early years in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania before moving to Elizabeth, NJ in his teens. He attended St. Benedict Prep School before obtaining his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the New York Institute of Technology.

While attending night classes for his degree, David began working at Automatic Switch in Florham Park where he met his beloved wife, Debbie. The couple married on August 31, 1980, and embarked on a beautiful honeymoon in Hawaii. They first settled in Parsippany before moving to Rockaway in 1986, and David spent the last three years living in Randolph after Debbie’s passing.

David adored spending time with his wife and his siblings. He and Debbie traveled often to Florida and enjoyed many cruises. David liked bowling, playing golf with his brothers, car races such as NASCAR and the Indy 500, country music, and was an avid fan of the Giants and the Mets. His family fondly recalls him as an intelligent man who was almost unbeatable at trivia.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend a visitation for David to be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, June 2, 2025 at the Madison Memorial Home, 159 Main Street, Madison.

A final visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 3, 2025 from 10:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home prior to interment at Somerset Hill Memorial Park, Basking Ridge.
