Obituary of Eleanor P. Hunt
Eleanor Patricia Hunt, née Rummo, died peacefully in her sleep on February 26, 2025 at Brighton Gardens/Sunrise Senior Living in Florham Park, NJ. She was 96 years old.
Eleanor was born to the late James and Lucy Rummo of Flushing, NY, on July 21, 1928.
After graduating from Flushing High School, Eleanor began working in Manhattan as a secretary for the RCA Broadcasting Company. RCA eventually became the NBC Television Network, where Eleanor was promoted to executive secretary. Eleanor worked at NBC for sixteen wonderful years, leaving only to become a homemaker in the Long Island suburb of Glen Cove. There she raised three children.
Eleanor was a longtime volunteer for St. Patrick’s R. C. Church in Glen Cove. She served as president of the St. Patrick’s School Mothers Club and continued to help at church events throughout her 35 years of living in Glen Cove. Later in life, Eleanor returned to work, again as an executive secretary, at the Computer Graphics Laboratory of New York Institute of Technology, before eventually retiring to Lake Worth, FL.
Throughout her life, Eleanor enjoyed watching movies, reading novels, playing softball, tennis and card games. She loved cheering on the NY Mets, spending summers on Prybil Beach in Glen Cove, and caring for her beloved pet dogs and cat.
Besides her parents, Eleanor was also predeceased by her brother and sister-in-law, John & Marie Rummo.
Eleanor is survived by her three children, Elizabeth Rosica (Paul), of Madison, NJ, Joanne Hunt of Boulder, CO, and Thomas Hunt (Julie), of Boulder, CO. She is also survived by her five grandsons, Luke, Christopher, & Andrew Rosica and Cameron & Owen Hunt. Additionally, she leaves behind her niece, Valerie Rummo Caio.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated for Eleanor on Monday, March 3, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, 1 Lloyd Ave., Florham Park, NJ.
Interment will follow at Mount St. Mary’s Cemetery, Queens, NY.
