Obituary of Linda A. Tyler

Linda A. Tyler, a lifelong Madison resident, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 9, 2025. She was 78.

She leaves behind one sister Lois Duff of Madison; one brother Bill Tyler of Summit; many cherished nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, extended family, and dear friends.

Linda was preceded in death by her sister Mary Tyler; brother-in-law Richard Duff; and sister-in-law Jane Tyler.

Born in Summit on August 10, 1946, to the late Lewis and Margaret Tyler (née O’Brien), Linda was raised in Madison. She attended St. Vincent’s elementary school, Bayley Ellard High School, and the College of St. Elizabeth.

Linda was a caretaker at heart and cared for her parents while working as a department manager at Epstein’s Department Store in Morristown. She was a kind and unselfish woman who did everything for her loved ones. Though she did not have children of her own, Linda helped raise many of her nieces and nephews as if they were her own children. She was very proud of her Irish heritage, traveling to Ireland often to visit family and helping to organize an annual O’Brien family picnic each year.

Linda was a talented artist in drawing and painting. She used many mediums including pencil and watercolor, but her favorite medium was coloring with crayons along with her nieces and nephews. Linda also loved music and attended Woodstock in her youth.

Linda’s family will forever treasure their memories of her. Her kindness and love will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated for Linda on Saturday, March 1, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Vincent Martyr Church, 26 Green Village Road, Madison. Those who wish may attend the mass virtually by visiting www.svmnj.org

Interment will follow at St. Vincent’s Cemetery, Madison.

In lieu of flowers, charitable contributions may be made in Linda’s memory to the Sisters of Charity of Saint Elizabeth, P.O. Box 476, Convent Station, NJ 07961.
