David was such a blessing to work with at BT. What a tremendous legacy of service to both the police force and to the Kingdom. I remember when he decided to join BT the BT staff after retirement and then later on to go work at the NY Public Library. I asked him, "why would he leave the work of the Lord?" He smiled and said, "To do just that--to do the work of the Lord out in the world where the lost souls didn't have the slightest idea of Who Jesus is: I brought so many people to the Lord while on the Police Force, but since working in the church itself, I haven't enlarged the Kingdom like I used to. That's why I'm going out into the world, so that I can reach the lost." David's focus was always on the people and how they were doing.
I was talking with Carol Cymbala that Saturday David that passed and recounting this testimony with her and she told me that Pastor Cymbala had been on the phone with David earlier in the day to express to David what a blessing his life had been to the he and Carol and to the BT ministry at large. Within the hour, David passed away to glory. in
David Portalatin was a true Ambassador of Christ. His reward is great
To my Portalatin Family, I love you all, wish I could be there. David prayed fervently for his family. He loved the Lord with all his heart. God's love was all over him. His last words to me I'll never forget. "God has not failed us! He will never fail you!! Keep praying! Keep sharing the Love of Jesus!! God bless you all. I love you!
Uncle David, you weren't just my uncle, you were a father to me. Your father-figure role in my life helped me overcome various challenges. Thank you for ALWAYS being there to love, pray, encourage, and support me. Your positive father-figure role also allowed me to grow into the Godly daughter, wife, and mother I am today. I will be forever grateful to Jesus for granting me an uncle like you, and I will always be extremely grateful to have been your niece. I'm so thankful, honored, humbled, and blessed that you gave me away to my husband on my wedding day. I'm also so thankful Jesus allowed you to meet, love, and pray over my precious daughter, Scarlett Rose. Those are memories I will forever cherish.
The hurt of your loss will forever be etched into my heart. Oh, how my heart aches! But, my loss is truly HEAVEN'S gain! Uncle David, YOU ARE FREE from all pain and suffering. CANCER LOST and YOU WON! You are in eternity with Jesus, Grandma, Grandpa, and Uncle Sam. I will miss our family trips to Cracker Barel and you asking me "Jessie, what are you ordering? Because I will order the same thing!" I will miss our long conversations and just hearing your voice, feeling your hugs, and hearing you say "I love you, Jessie."
Uncle David, thank you for loving me like a daughter. Enjoy God's glory and those streets of gold! I can only imagine what it must have been like seeing Jesus face to face. I can't wait until we are reunited again one day. HEAVEN has never looked sweeter. I will ALWAYS love and miss you.

Dear Carmen - Please know Craig and I are lifting you and the entire family up in prayer. We pray for strength and endurance during this season of grief. May you find comfort in knowing your spiritual family is interceding on your behalf.
David true Warrior and a fisher of men sharing the gospel of Jesus. No matter the pain he went through he gave honor to Jesus. He is a true example and a disciple of christ. May you rest in peace. I want to thank God for the years he gave us with David. Words can not express how I feel. But I rejoice he is with his heavenly Father no more pain and suffering. We will continue to follow what you did for the family sending devotions and getting together to pray as a Family. love you, your younger brother Elias
My brother David was truly a gift God gave me in an older brother. I can't remember one bad day with him. Every day was always a blessing to have him as a brother. It didn't matter what I needed, he was always there. I loved talking to him because he never had anything negative to say. Our conversations were always uplifting and encouraging. Whenever I was wrong in my actions, he never judged me, he simply let me know why my actions were wrong and he always pointed me back to the word of God. I looked forward to our daily 10am conversations.
He was funny and a joy to be around. Our family outings were filled with fun and his humor was one to admire. In his final days, his prayers became so much deeper and he would say, "Though He slay me, still I will trust Him." His faith never swayed. He always prayed for people even when he was in pain-that didn't stop him from calling out to God for others.
David was a true Peacemaker. He was a man after God's own heart. He was an amazing brother and I will carry him in my heart as long as I live. I miss him so much, but I can imagine how he is rejoicing in Heaven waiting with open arms for us to join him one day.
Love you, David and I thank you for everything you did for me and my girls, (your nieces). Thank you for always reminding me that with Christ, all things are possible. Thank you for never giving up on me and for always being there. Losing you here on earth has left a big hole in my heart but I know you are no longer suffering, but rejoicing.
