Arthur “Art” A. Pappas, a longtime Madison resident, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 25, 2018 at his home. He was 83.
Art was survived by his beloved wife of 58 wonderful years, Catherine Pappas (nee DeSena); his son, Arthur Pappas, Jr.; his daughter, Valerie Wardamasky (nee Pappas) and her husband Marty; one brother, Peter Pappas; one sister, Helen Arnold; two cherished granddaughters, Tori & Marisa; and many nieces, nephews & good friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter & Mary Pappas; and four sisters, Stasha Legatos, Jennie Cazanas, Kay Sarruda and Genie Caras.
Art was born in Quincy, MA and was the youngest of 7 children. Growing up he loved baseball and his beloved Red Sox. He settled in Madison with his family over 50 years ago. Prior to his retirement, Art was a highly skilled calibration manager at Picatinny Arsenal for over 30 years. He took great pride in his work. He was also a US Army veteran.
Art was a true family man. He and his beloved wife Catherine were inseparable and he was a wonderful father and grandfather. He loved the ocean, salt water fishing, boating and jazz music, but his absolute pride were his granddaughters. Art also coached little league baseball in Madison many years ago.
Funeral services will begin at 9:00AM on Monday, January 29, 2018 at the Madison Memorial Home, 159 Main Street, Madison, followed by a 10:00AM Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at St. Vincent Martyr RC Church, Madison. Entombment will follow at Gate of Heaven Mausoleum, East Hanover. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation to celebrate Art’s life on Sunday from 1PM to 5PM at the funeral home.
