Helena Granato (nee Spinozzi), a long-time Madison resident, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 5, 2017 at Morristown Medical Center. She was 84.
Born and raised in Boonton, Helena has lived in Madison for the past 60 years. She worked in a variety of positions at Bell Labs for many years, before her retirement. Helena was a parishioner of St. Patrick's RC Church in Chatham.
Helena leaves behind her beloved husband of 60 years, Carmen Granato; one daughter, Lenora Granato; one son, Christopher Granato (Lynn); two granddaughters Chelsea and Alexandra. She is survived by her loving sisters and brother; Anne DeBellonia and Ida Anderson (Gerald) of Boonton; Gabe Spinozzi (Lynda) of Boonton Township. She will also be missed by many nieces and nephews and close family friends.
Hardcore concert “groupie” for relatively obscure NJ bands – she was faster than Dale Earnhardt Jr with her walker and would bowl you over to get a good seat! Queen of the Rebates – found fantastic deals everywhere! Marketing genius and Master wheeler/dealer of the world renowned Boonton Garage Sales. Never passed up free food no matter what it was or where it came from. Never left a dinner buffet without stuffing her pocketbook with dessert for later when she was hungry again (including ice cream!). Generous to a fault even if it meant many a personal sacrifice.
A Memorial Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held at St. Patrick's RC Church Chatham at 11:00AM on Tuesday October 3, 2017. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation from 5:30PM to 8:30PM on Monday October 2, 2017 at the Madison Memorial Home, 159 Main Street, Madison, NJ.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Helena's memory to the Madison P.B.A. 92 for the Cirella Fund, 62 Kings Road, Madison, NJ, 07940.
